The town and community of Neath is situated in the wider region of Neath Port Talbot in Wales, while it sits on the picturesque River Neath that runs seven miles northeast of Swansea.

Historically a market town, Neath’s economy began to expand with the arrival of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, while it has largely remained true to its industrial and manufacturing roots even as it has continued to evolve.

But what exactly is modern-day Neath like, and is it suitable for advertisers who want to reach consumers through out-of-home (OOH) media?

Why Advertise on Billboards in Neath?

During the Industrial Revolution, Neath was renowned as a key player in the marketplaces for commodities such as iron, tinplate and steel.

The famous Mackworth family played a key role in the town’s economic development to this day, while they also enabled coal to be mined and traded extensively during the 19th century.

Even today, Neath relies heavily on manufacturing and industry to drive its economy, while it’s interesting to note that the town’s close proximity to Swansea has made it a popular base for a growing number of commuters to the city (who regularly use the A483 to complete this daily journey).

So, while Neath has 20% less higher and intermediate managerial, administrative or professional households than the national average, this number is growing alongside the rise in commuting.

As a result of this (and the affordable nature of real estate in Neath), the rate of home-ownership has also spiked in recent times.

It’s now estimated that 36.4% of the population own their own property in Neath (32.3% of which do so through a secured mortgage), with the both of these figures a touch higher than the national average for Wales.

The percentage of people classed as being employed in Neath (71.4%) has also increased incrementally in recent years, and while it remains below the national average of 74.1%, it’s indicative of a relatively robust economy and an increasingly affluent workforce.

The Population and Demographics in Neath

According to the most recent census data, Neath boasts a total population in excess of 19,258.

It’s also part of a wider urban area, and one that (when combined with its neighbouring settlements) was home to an estimated 50,658 people.

The dominant demographic in Neath are aged between 30 and 59, with people in these segments comprising 40% (19% and 21%) of the total population. The corresponding number for Wales is 38.5%, and there’s no doubt that the town’s population has become increasingly youthful and affluent in recent times.

There’s also a diverse range of social grades represented in Neath, with this providing a classification based on occupation type and income.

At present, the C1 and C2 grades (which represent lower-middle and skilled working classes) account for 51.60% of the Neath population, with this only marginally lower than the average number for Wales.

Interestingly, the number of working class residents is noticeably higher than the national average (35.07% to 29.69%), creating a unique opportunity for advertisers who continue to promote affordable and essential products and services.

Why Outdoor Advertising in Neath is Beneficial

The broad range of demographics is definitely appealing to advertisers across a broad range of markets, with clear opportunities to target several different target audience types simultaneously.

When you consider this in line with the increasingly youthful nature of the population and the relatively high levels of economic activity in the town, outdoor advertising also enables companies to target customers whilst they’re going about their daily business.

The aforementioned A483 road is also appealing to advertisers, due to the number of people that commute from Neath to Swansea on a regular basis.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column css_animation=”none” width=”1/3″][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id=”primary”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
